Hi, I’m Karen. Thanks for clicking through to my blog! I’m in my late twenties, living in sunny Suffolk and recently I’ve developed more of an interest in my patch of land I call a garden.
After working over 3 years for the largest mail-order gardening company, talking to customers daily about their seedlings, I thought y’know what, I might give this gardening malarkey a go. I currently work as a freelance Dance Artist, but when I’ve got some down time I enjoy sticking on some boots and heading into my garden.
Growing up I was surrounded by a family who loved their garden, my dad who spends nearly every minute he can get in his, and his dad who grew every type of vegetable and fruit going! I kick myself for not asking more questions as a kid (instead I was too busy pinching the strawberries and other gems growing).
What I really can’t understand though, is why so many people my age aren’t getting their wellies on and digging around (or even just growing a few pots of herbs on their windowsill). There are so many positives from keeping a garden – I can prove it from the amount of tomatoes I produced last year! It’s a real beauty seeing something you have nursed for months turn into something you can put on your plate at the end of the day. & not just veg, but beautiful flowers too. Who doesn’t want to sit outdoors in the summer with a glass of Pimms surrounded by colour, rather than an overgrown heap?
So here I am. Learning (slowly) about how to grow from seed, provide some TLC to my plants and generally how to create a beautiful garden all year round… and I’m loving the experience so far! This space is for me to learn even more, so feel free to follow my trials and triumphs as I battle it out to transform my garden, and hopefully inspire yours!
Any tips are more than welcome too! If you wish to get in contact with me please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org- I’d love to meet some more friendly gardeners!
I hope you enjoy reading, Karen (The Young Gardener) xo
